Portland State fraternity Phi Delta Theta is having their third annual Teeter-Totter-a-Thon in the Park Blocks this week. Members and pledges alike take turns on the teeter-totter, never stopping during the 48 hour-long philanthropy project.

Matt Addington, Phi-Delta Theta member and a senior majoring in communication, explained further while bobbing up and down on the teeter-totter.

“We’re here to raise awareness and funds for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Portland Metropolitan Area,” Addington said. “We started the Teeter-Totter-a-Thon in spring of ’07, and we did it together with another fraternity, Kappa Sigma.”

Boris Anni, Phi Delta Theta member and senior in business, was eager to explain why they chose to incorporate a teeter-totter.

“I like this particular philanthropy because it’s fun and is good physical activity, plus I get to be outside with my brothers promoting our fraternity for a worthy organization,” Anni said.

According to the Boys and Girls Club Web site, the charity has been operating in the Portland metro area since 1946, providing thousands of children throughout the city with after-school programs, summer camps and mentoring services.
