Some of the sexiest music ever has come from Austria and Madrid. Which seems strange, but why not combine the two? The duo known as Madrid De Los Austrias consists of DJ Heinz Tronigger and a producer named Pogo. Tronigger is also the label boss of Sunshine Enterprise, an independent music company that runs two internationally acknowledged clubs in Vienna, and Pogo toured with Falco way back when. That Falco sure was cool. What ever happened to him? MDLA paid their dues working on remixes with premier electronic artists Richard Dorfmeister, Zero 7 and Koop – and it shows on their debut. The album is filled with both chill and up-tempo syncopated beats and a smattering of mono-beat house. There’s plenty of live instrumentation, mostly percussion, to compliment the sample foundation and some very sexy Spanish-language vocals. The great thing about this release is that it’s an honest fusion. It doesn’t sound like some white boys trying to appropriate the irresistible Spanish flavor. Well, maybe it does that just a little, but it’s a unique release that stands on its own rather well. And how cool you’ll sound when you say you’re listening to a band called Madrid de los Austrias. It’s all about sounding cool, right?
