“House of Flying Daggers” 5, 9:30 p.m.
A virtuoso achievement in the world of Chinese ninja flicks, this film is the first ever to feature two warring factions and a rebel group that seeks to rebelliously defeat both. Lots of totally original segments of daggers flying pell-mell through some kind of house.

“Merchant of Venice” 2:35, 7:10 p.m.
I don’t know who this Shakespeare clown is, but he should know by now that period films are totally played out.

This is one of those films that inhabits the same tier as Fox’s “The Simpsons” in terms of pop-culture staples that I always get shit for having never seen. So I hereby establish my indie cred for having never seen this. Ha! I’m so much fucking cooler than you! (If you want to talk “Labyrinth,” I’m totally down.)

Howard Hughes co-directed this $4 million dogfight in 1930. Hey, wait a second … 1930? Four million? If this film didn’t get people feeling better about the depression, I don’t know what did.

Leonardo DiCrapio (Poison Ivy, Critters 3) stars as Howard Hughes in this much-touted Academy darling. Pop quiz! Prior to this movie’s release, how many of you knew who Howard Hughes was? Don’t worry – I didn’t either (still don’t – haven’t seen it).

This movie is supposed to follow the Frank Miller comic book frame for frame, although I don’t recall a panel in the original featuring Bruce Willis’s geriatric unit infiltrating Lindsay Lohan’s “Sin City.”
