Three Local Ballot Measures
Weighing the Pros and Cons
On Monday evening, October 10, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, the League of Women Voters of Portland will host debates on three local ballot measures. We will examine how these measures will affect Portland and Multnomah County. We will also hear what advocates on both sides are saying about them. The debates will be held in the Multnomah County Board Room, 501 SE Hawthorne Boulevard, Portland, and will address the following measures.
Measure 26-179, City of Portland Affordable Housing Bond
In Favor: Jessica Larson, Director, Welcome Home Coalition
Against: Eric Fruits, Ph.D., President, Economics International Corp.
Measure 26-183, Multnomah County Charter Amendment for an Appointed Sheriff
In Favor: Judy Shiprack, Multnomah County Commissioner
Against: Mike Reese, Multnomah County Sheriff
Measure 26-184, Multnomah County Charter Amendment for Campaign Finance Reform
In Favor: Juan Carlos Ordonez, Charter Review Comm.; “Honest Elections” campaign
Against: Steve March, Multnomah County Auditor
This Local Ballot Measure Forum is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30 PM.
Parking is available on the street. The Multnomah County Building is also easily accessed by public transportation. Trimet options include bus lines 4, 6, 10, 14, 15 and the Portland Streetcar.
The forum will be recorded by MetroEast Community Media for rebroadcast and online streaming from lwvpdx.org. Funding for the recording is provided by the Multnomah Bar Foundation.
A State Ballot Measures Forum held on Sept. 12 is now online and may be viewed from
lwvpdx.org. That Forum included a presentation on the Fundamentals of the Oregon Budget, a review of Measure 96 (Veterans Services); 98 (High School Success); 99 (Outdoor School); and a debate on Measure 97 (Increase to the corporate minimum tax).
