A symbol of sustainability
Cob bench: Students from the Freshman Inquiry “Design and Society” and the Senior Capstone “Community Place Making” collaborated all week with
Portland’s City Repair Project to build a bench made of cob, a natural mud mixture of sand, clay and straw, outside of the Millar Library. The students will
continue to work until May 28 on the project focused on providing a stimulating, functional and aesthetically pleasing structure that serves environmentally
sustainable practices, according to the project description. The City Repair Project is a Portland-based volunteer organization.
