Say what?
“I wasn’t aware that Aramark was considering lowering some prices…”
-Julie North, who manages Portland State’s contract with Aramark.
In case you were wondering…
Your life is worth exactly as much as your hands or your feet.
In the case of accidental death, Wells Fargo, the PSU health insurance provider, will pay $1,000 to the family of the departed student.
But, Wells Fargo will also pay $1,000 to an insured student who accidentally loses both of their hands, both of their feet or the sight from both of their eyes. You can also get that $1,000 if you lose just one hand and one foot, or the combination of one hand or one foot and the sight from one eye.
Sweet deal right?
Not all horrific accidents will pay as well. You’ll only get $500 if you merely lose one hand, one foot or the sight from one eye. And you get a measly $250 if you lose your thumb and index finger. You may not be able to write, but you can buy that iPod you didn’t get for Christmas.
What the hell is that?
You know that field next to the campus putting green that was riddled with holes and constantly covered in dog poo? No? Well now there is a large 5,000 square foot metal green house covering it that you probably don’t know about either.
The PSU Research Greenhouse popped up on the south side of the Stott Center in 2007. It has four independently controlled sections, each with 720 square feet of space. And like everything on the PSU campus, it is sustainable.
Each section houses faculty research projects in departments like biology and environmental sciences and resources. Environmental conditions can be controlled remotely, which seems like it was probably invented to let faculty run experiments in bed.
What you see now is only phase one of the greenhouse project. A second phase, in its fundraising stage, would increase the space to 11,000 square feet.
