In an effort to raise public awareness of archaeology in the Portland area, PSU’s Anthropology Department will be holding Archaeology Day events in the South Park Blocks Saturday morning.

The free event, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will include public participation events such as exploring Atlatl and Groundstone technology (throwing spears, and mortar and pestle use).

Demonstrations, such as how stone tools are created, are also scheduled for the event.

According to event organizers, the event will feature speakers from the local archaeological community, and presentations on local history, such as historical methods of transportation around the Portland area, and the local history of public marketplaces.
