Portland State’s Haystack Summer Program presents its 33rd annual creative arts workshops this summer at Cannon Beach. University credit is available for most classes.
Writing classes, which run July 15 through August 9, include workshops led by Karen Jay Fowler, Ursula LeGuin, Molly Gloss, Sandra Scofield, Tom Spanbauer, Sally Tisdale and Jack Bedell.
Visual arts classes, which also run July 15 through August 9, include workshops in painting, collage, block printing and Native American basketry.
July 12-13 features a vocal jazz improvisation workshop with jazz legend Nancy King and local singer/songwriter Mary Kadderly. From July 29-August 2, Rodney Eichenberger teaches a choral conducting workshop.
July 22-26 will feature a children’s book conference, with a focus on both illustrating and writing.
Registration continues through the month, and all participants are responsible for arranging their own lodging, but Haystack provides a listing of local accommodations.
