Nada Surf has always found a great balance of melancholy and joy in their music. Their finest songs deal with regret and hope in a very neutral way–everyone can find something to relate to. Portland State administrators have now agreed to spend more than $2 million on faculty salary raises as of Wednesday’s bargaining session with PSU’s full-time faculty union.
SFC denies zine center money
The planned zine resource center will not receive funding next year after the Student Fee Committee ruled that the center does not have enough student involvement, leaving future developments for the print media creation lab on hold.
Women’s Basketball Preview
Rogers, a crafty point guard, leads the team in scoring with 13 points a contest and shoots a stellar 49.7 percent from the field, good enough for third in the Big Sky. An intriguing matchup will be how well Rogers, the Big Sky’s second best three-point shooter at 47.8 percent, strokes from behind the arc against a Portland State team that leads conference in three-point shooting defense. Another player to watch out for is Clossmon, who averages respectable marks of 10 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.
Men’s Basketball Preview
Portland State’s Morrison scored a career-high 23 points in an overtime win over Northern Colorado two weeks ago. The senior center is averaging 10.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game. For the Grizzlies, Hasquet is certainly an all-around threat, as he leads the team in minutes, points and rebounds. Hasquet averages 15.7 points and eight rebounds in 32 minutes per contest.
Part-time faculty file mediation
After nine months of salary negotiations, Portland State’s part-time faculty union will move on to the mediation process of the collective bargaining agreement with university administrators next week.
Virginia Tech forces closer look at campus safety
Portland State has created a committee on university emergency procedures to examine the role of campus public safety officers, as well as look at how effective internal communications would be in the event of an emergency.

A rally for domestic partnership rights is being held tonight at 5:30 in the Terry Shrunk Plaza, located at Southwest Third Avenue and Madison Street. The rally is being organized by Basic Rights Oregon, in response to a federal judge postponing a law that would allow domestic partnerships in Oregon.
