It’s great to hear that you’re finally graduating. We at the Vanguard are really proud of you–in fact, the entire school is.
Dear President Bernstine
The year in review
The 2006-07 school year has altered Portland State on nearly every level. Numerous administrators and faculty, including President Daniel Bernstine, have left or might leave their jobs. The roots of a newly invigorated athletic program have begun to take hold and the university was forced to make drastic budget cuts.
No sign of home
Just before he left for work on April 30, Lauren Lundblad, a 32-year-old senior in biology at Portland State, was playing World of Warcraft with his fiancee and friends. Afterward, he said goodbye to his fiancee, and, like any other day, jumped on his bike and rode to work. What happened after that is unknown.
God Wars
Shalom, My children. One afternoon, I happened across an alarming column in Portland State’s Vanguard. In their most recent writing, the young Hebrews Henry Kraemer and Michael Schocket have sinned against My name.
Affirmative action
Affirmative action. The term has positive connotations to it, denoting an action in the, well, affirmative. Something assuring, something positive, something that is right.
Screwing you: an ode to prostitution and brothels
Prostitutes, hookers, callgirls, streetwalkers, gigolos, johns, ranches, brothels, madams, pimps. We’ve all heard the terminology.
Football looks to Glanville for hope
After an opening-game victory over New Mexico and a No. 21 ranking in the NCAA I-AA polls, the Portland State football team’s 2006 season appeared full of hope and promise for a postseason appearance.
Harvey’s Comedy Club
Although Portland is not nearly the draw for comedians that New York, L.A. and Las Vegas are, Harvey’s Comedy Club serves up some great live entertainment right in the heart of downtown.
Pictures (with words)
Sometimes pictures have words. Sometimes they don’t. This time they do.
The last The Street Savage
I originally couldn’t think of a subject for my very last interview, so I thought I’d have the people make up their own subject. I interviewed my friend Brian Miller first and thought it’d be much more fun if he helped do the interviewing.
Reflection on the election
It is with great satisfaction that I can put this tumultuous election season behind me. To my friends and supporters, I give my biggest thanks.
