Lois Lowry is the author of over 33 books and the recipient of two Newberry medals. Gossamer marks her first foray into adapting one of her books for the stage, and she chose to work with Oregon Children’s Theater, in conjunction with First Stage in Milwaukee, Wis. to create a moving piece where fantasy and reality merge.

Vaccinated
It is 8:30 a.m. on a sunny Monday. PSU President Wim Wiewel, shortly after arriving at his office, has just been stuck with a needle and bandaged up. “Where’s my cookie and juice?” Wiewel jokes, flashing his characteristic open grin. While it may seem like an unpleasant way to start the week for most, the atmosphere in the president’s office was all smiles.

No debate, this one’s a winner
There isn’t a traditional way to write about the latest Artists Repertory Theatre production, Speech and Debate, without doing the show an injustice. The synopsis will be dull and is likely to seem trite and stale: Three alienated teens form a Speech and Debate Club where they learn about identity, each other and how to belong. That’s terrible. And it doesn’t begin to hint at the numerous George Michael references that pepper the action.

Jerry Glanville sat in his black leather office chair around midday Thursday staring over a plastic container of steaming rice that was lying on his desk. Glanville was in deep thought, sitting in silence just moments after the he emphatically laid out the woes that have defined Portland State’s lackluster 2-4 record.

Ex-PSU employee confesses to theft of $312K in university electronics
Daniel Korpenfelt, a former lab technician at Portland State, has plead guilty to stealing $312,000 worth of electronic equipment from the university, which he stole and sold online over the course of three years, according to an Oct. 23 Oregonian article.
