Wim Wiewel named next PSU president

Wim Wiewel will take the helm as Portland State’s next president later this year, the State Board of Higher Education announced Friday morning. Wiewel, the provost and vice president of University of Baltimore, was the final candidate left vying for the presidency after the months-long search process.

The unknown country

Author Daniel Mason garnered much acclaim for his first novel The Piano Tuner in 2002. His second novel A Far Country flew under the radar when it was released last spring, but perhaps the well-written, fable-like story will find new life in its paperback release.

The skit, with its brevity, irreverence and social commentary, sums up nicely what Dave Foley, Kevin McDonald, Bruce McCulloch, Mark McKinney and Scott Thompson did in their six-year television run.

Wim Wiewel is likely to become the next Portland State president. Comments by State Board of Higher Education members after an executive session interview with Wiewel Tuesday indicate that they think highly of the candidate’s experience, knowledge and personality.

Another withdraws from consideration for PSU president

A second candidate vying for the PSU presidency withdrew from the running Thursday afternoon, making Wim Wiewel, the current provost and vice president of the University of Baltimore, the only candidate left. Kathie Olsen, the deputy director and chief operating officer of the National Science Foundation, told the chancellor of the Oregon University System in a letter she sent Thursday that it is not the right time for her to leave the National Science Foundation.
