A running mecca

Together with views of breathtaking scenery and miles of trails, Portland has everything for the leisurely jogger, the weekend warrior or the elite runner. The Nike world headquarters are located in Beaverton, giving the Rose City a nice foundation for runners, as well as an outdoor appeal with miles of trails and beautiful scenery.

New face, same goal

Although a young man at just 35 years old, Tyler Geving has been coaching basketball for the majority of his life. The Central Washington alumnus came to the South Park Blocks in 2005, when head coach Ken Bone offered Geving an assistant coaching position.

A season in the books

A rebuilding year for head coach Ronnye Harrison and the Portland State Vikings came to an end this weekend. The men’s and women’s teams both finished in ninth place over the weekend.

Championship time

As the track and field team heads to Missoula, Mont., to compete in the Big Sky Outdoor Championships, there is a noticeable difference from the Vikings squads of years past.

Spotlight Athlete of the Week

After a rocky start to her collegiate career, Tiffany Bigham changed her mindset and made track a No. 1 priority. Two years later she has become a force to be reckoned within the conference and has already picked up wins in discus and shot put throws.

Historic site

It was a boisterous weekend as competitors saw sunshine, wind, rain and a good crowd of supporters in Eugene. The same weather conditions occurred for the women despite being more than a few hundred miles away from each other.

An elite athlete

Ten events over a two-day period; shot put, 100-meter dash, discus, pole vault, hurdles, among others, finishing with the 1500-meter run. The decathlon, clearly one of the most difficult events in all of sports, takes a special type of person to complete it successfully.

Fresh generation in the Park Blocks

After an impressive showing at the Washington vs. Oregon track meet in Spokane, Wash., last weekend, it’s clear that the Portland State squad has worked hard at improving their standing in the Big Sky Conference.
