September has come and gone, and students around the globe have run rigorously, and indolently, through their first days of classes.

The Rant and Rage has been hitting the pages of various publications for a year now and has garnered responses of laughter, admiration and a lot of anger. Do I, Dick Richards, care? Not really.

The dreaded time is at hand! Grab all the necessary supplies and be prepared to lock yourself inside. That wickedly wretched gala of insanity and annoyance shall soon descend upon the city of Portland.

You look like a moron. I’m sorry, but I just have to say it. In recent years, certain fashion trends have failed to fade away and die like they should have, and instead, continue to visually offend me on a daily basis.

Hey, guy blaring his subwoofers down the street. You’re an asshole. I know you think you’re expressing an image of cool, but all you’re really expressing is how much of a douche bag you are.

I won’t beat around the bush here. Parents of the world, get your brats under control. I know kids can be a handful, but damn it, get some common sense and realize that your little runt running around a restaurant, screaming its head off, is not OK.

In its March edition, Portland State’s student publication the Rearguard printed a piece on the “Vanguard’s dirty little secret” titled “Everyone’s a critic: The Vanguard takes heat for silencing dissent.” Well that sounds controversial!

  The world is full of horrors. Terrors such as school shootings, drugs, robberies or Glenn Beck plague us every day. But none of these frightening tragedies of daily life can compare to a mounting threat terrorizing our educational system. The scourge: Hugs.

Students have taken to the streets and voiced their opposition to the idea of converting Oregon’s universities into independent public corporations.

Another month rolls along and with it yet another worthless holiday, mass marketed and meant to empty your pockets. You all know what I am talking about, Valentine’s Day. A holiday with little genuine sentimentality.

I enjoy nature and therefore am doing my part to help out the good ol’ environment. I have been known to compost, I use mass transit and I don’t recycle my coffee cups.
