With a little more than a year in the books as athletic director, Torre Chisholm has witnessed interest in Portland State athletics pick up steam after winning three Big Sky Conference Championships in men’s basketball, volleyball and women’s golf. Chisholm realizes his first year on the job could have gone a lot worse.

Anita Dilles has come a long way since her first bike ride as an adventurous six year old on a pink Huffy. On that day, she decided to break in a new pair of shoes and a new bike when her laces got caught in the wheel. Dilles recalls that first bike ride, which ended with a crash and a tumble into a mud puddle.

Goal No. 1: Championship

There have been some changes at the top for the Vikings over the past couple of months, but with the program now resting in the hands of new head coach Laura Schott, the former Portland State assistant coach envisions a bright future for soccer in the South Park Blocks.

During a 32-year career at Portland State, Teri Mariani has compiled an impressive list of achievements, including 29 years as head coach of the softball team, and a 14-month stint as the interim athletic director. At the end of this month, she will add another title: retiree.

Talking shop with the ‘Man in Black’

The Vikings will fasten their chinstraps for the last time until fall practice commences when they hit the newly laid turf at PGE Park for the annual Spring Game at 1 p.m. Saturday. While most were sleeping over the past month, the players have been refining their skills with two-hour workouts starting at 7 a.

Determined to excel

After meeting with the Indianapolis Colts two weeks ago for a physical, Portland State linebacker Jordan Senn was given a video of the undrafted free-agent players who are currently on the team’s roster.
