Six Vikings NFL bound

Players from over 100 schools were selected at the NFL Draft this past weekend, with obscure programs such as Coastal Carolina, Washburn and Bentley, all making the cut. Portland State had zero players selected over the course of the two-day, 252-pick draft.

Up for vote: Constitutional amendments

Student elections will be moved to the fifth week of spring term next year if students vote to accept the proposed amendments to the ASPSU constitution during this week’s elections. Judicial Board members say the changes would help prevent future elections debacles, such as the one that occurred last year with Rudy Soto.

For Pacific Coast Softball Conference teams, there is only one guaranteed ticket to the NCAA Tournament. Unlike softball powerhouses such as the Pacific-10 or Southeastern Conference, which typically have several NCAA Tournament berths each year, the PCSC has historically sent just one team to the 64-squad tournament.

ASPSU elections kick off

Both student body presidential hopefuls are not only talking about the importance of voting in this week’s ASPSU elections with their words, but they are speaking volumes with their attire. Presidential candidate Hannah Fisher shaved the word “vote” in her hair and presidential candidate Christian Aniciete and his slate members are sporting bright yellow shirts as both slates set out to campaign in the South Park Blocks this week.

Head football coach Jerry Glanville’s Sixth Avenue office received a complete makeover during the off-season. Instead of a pair of chairs, a cushy cloth couch now sits to the left of the doorway. Glanville’s computer rests on a small desk to the side of his primary workplace. The walls are a refreshing bright white. And two glittery black Viking football helmets book end his wooden, executive-style desk.

The closest thing to flying’

Peter Welte remembers trying to shake off the sleepiness as he rolled out of bed almost every morning, quickly changing his clothes and darting to school atop the seat of his bike. This was his first foray into competitive cycling, as Welte’s goal was beating the school bus that he routinely missed to school.
