The members of the Portland State Fencing Club had to be content fencing amongst themselves in the Valhalla Épée Invitational fencing tournament held at the Academic and Student Recreation Center on Saturday after last-minute cancellations from Oregon and Lower Columbia College.

Portland State is set to host the Valhalla Épée Invitational fencing tournament on Saturday at the Academic and Student Recreation Center. Fencers from the University of Oregon and Lower Columbia College will join the Portland State Fencing Club for the épée-style dual.

Tennis roundup

The Portland State men’s tennis team won an all-important conference encounter against Northern Colorado at Greeley, Colo., on Saturday but lost 5–2 to Air Force at Colorado Springs on Sunday.

On the road again

The Portland State men’s tennis team flies to Colorado to play Big Sky rival Northern Colorado and then Air Force this weekend, while the women’s team heads north to Richmond, Wash., to take on Idaho and Seattle on Saturday.

Women’s first kill, overkill for the men

The Portland State women’s tennis team recorded its first win of the season against Southern Oregon on Friday, but could not keep up the momentum through the weekend as they went down fighting to Montana and Seattle. The men’s team, meanwhile, defeated city rival Lewis & Clark, 7–0, on Sunday.

Home court advantage: Vikings

After a three-week hiatus, the Portland State women’s tennis squad returns to action this weekend to face opponents from three teams in as many days here in Portland. The men’s team, meanwhile, has a break of their own, with only one game on the weekend docket

Some kind of monster

A deafening roar filled the Rose Garden this weekend as tens of thousands of fans did their best to match the thunderous sound of eight 1,500-horsepower, supercharged, big-block American V-8s revved to life at the Monster Jam.

Weekend split

In a weekend of pure conference action, the Portland State men’s tennis team lost to Montana (3–4), but reversed the score on Saturday to defeat Eastern Washington (4–3). The Vikings, now 3–5 overall, stand third in the Big Sky with a 2–1 record in conference.

Table Tennis, part II

On Saturday morning, Portland State’s Table Tennis Club plays the second leg of the National Collegiate Table Tennis Association’s regional tournament at the new rec center.

Long and winding road

The Portland State men’s tennis team signed off from its four-game weekend after earning one win and suffering three losses. Over a span of three days, the Vikings played four teams in two cities, during which they won their duel against conference opponents Montana State but lost to UC Davis, Idaho and Oregon.
