Mission accomplished?

You know the old cliché that time heals all wounds? Well, there are certain wounds that take a bit longer to heal. Wounds of this variety are often not physical, but mental and emotional.

A layered film

It is one thing for me to sit around and critique mainstream popular films each week, but quite another when it comes to a documentary about art and film. The same formulas do not apply.

Underland is not wonderland

After sitting through the nearly two hours of crazy colorful 3-D CGI graphics that make up Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, I found myself surprised when the credits began rolling. In a slight panic, I took off my flimsy plastic goggles and wondered what had just happened.

Brooklyn’s foulest

It wasn’t until a couple of hours after seeing Brooklyn’s Finest that I realized I’d seen this movie before. OK, so I hadn’t seen this exact film before, but I might as well have, considering director Antoine Fuqua followed the cop-versus-street recipe precisely, only altering it to yield three times the normal results—and I’m not talking success here.

Love may be in the air, but it’s not on the big screen

With Valentine’s Day swiftly approaching (read: it’s this Sunday), plenty of my female friends have made plans to take their beaus to the latest romantic comedies at the box office. When in Rome premiered two weeks ago (we reviewed it last week), Dear John hit theaters last Friday and Valentine’s Day is set to come out on, well, Valentine’s Day.
But who are we kidding?
