What you should know is that the results of the mayoral election may impact everything from state funding to your next summer job.

Why are we so unhappy?

“Who are we?” a recent New York Times headline asked. The article, written by Dr. Richard A. Friedman, questioned how doctors are going to answer questions from adults who have taken antidepressants since they were teenagers. Friedman wrote that since we develop most of our self-identity when we are teenagers, these medicated adults cannot differentiate their own personality from the symptoms of the drugs such as anxiety, low sex-drive and an inability to orgasm.

The importance of being green

“The government should make a law,” I overheard a co-worker saying, “against throwing anything recyclable into the trash. There should be trash inspectors to enforce the law and if anyone is caught they’ll be fined.” The heavy enunciation of the last word shows that she knows where to hurt Americans the most–their wallets.

“A penny saved is a penny earned,” said Benjamin Franklin. Today, with inflation, to follow this founding father’s advice, we must obliterate the penny. Each year 8 billion pennies are minted, according to a recent 60 Minutes episode. These pennies total $80 million, but cost $130 million to make. Pennies are mainly composed of copper-coated zinc. Over the past five years, these metals have doubled in price as inflation continues to increase. The metals in the penny are worth more than the coin itself.
