According to Portland State chapter President Erica Lee-Johnson, the main NAACP branch in Portland, founded in 1914, is no longer functioning after it was found in non-compliance with the national organization.

Not just noise

University gifts exceed $10 million

Two months after receiving a $25 million grant for sustainability, Portland State’s Office of University Development has announced they now hold more than $10 million in donation pledges from thousands within the Portland community.

A man of all genres

Stephen Graham Jones knew he wanted to become a writer after part of his tongue was cut off in a freak accident in the third grade, leaving him unable to speak for a time. Jones, an accomplished author and professor of creative writing at the University of Colorado at Boulder, made an appearance at Portland State Wednesday night, reading from some of his works.

Local filmmaker Steve Amen comes home to PSU

Portland State’s Theater Arts Department is welcoming back an old friend to its fold: documentary filmmaker Steve Amen. Amen, a PSU alumnus with 25 years of documentary filmmaking under his belt, is the theater arts department’s artist-in-residence, and will be teaching a class on documentary film production during the upcoming winter and spring terms.

Men’s basketball team to host Texas hold’em tournament

Fresh off an NCAA Tournament appearance this past March, the Portland State men’s basketball team is hosting its third annual Texas Hold ‘Em Poker Tournament at the Stott Center this Friday, Nov. 7. The evening’s festivities will begin at 6 p.m. with registration and an hour of socializing complete with food, wine and beer, said Jamie Anderson, who along with nine other members of a committee has been planning for the event since August.
