Two of Portland’s finest natural products are headlining a benefit for Reading Frenzy at Holocene tonight. Quasi (whose new LP, When the Going Gets Dark will be released on Touch and Go March 21) and Viva Voce are playing to help raise money for one of the best independent bookstores in the city. Scuffle and Dustcough will open the evening.
It’s a rare appearance for the Weiss/Coomes machine, as the Quasi-front has been pretty quiet lately. Other than the duo’s opening slot for Sleater-Kinney and Stephen Malkmus at the Crystal Ballroom on Dec. 30 of last year, Quasi really hasn’t been heard from that much lately. Which is a shame. But the sadness will be turned into gladness tonight, so if the show’s not sold out, you should really think about going.
Also on tap are Viva Voce and Scuffle and Dustcough. The concert begins at 9 p.m. and tickets are $12 at the door.
