This is the place to be on a Thursday night. The only true bar on campus offers several dollar-drink-night options, the most popular being the dollar-drinks-for-everyone night each Thursday. Starting next month, the cover will be a respectable $2. Once inside you can get a handy buzz on for next to nothing.
Located inside the Ione Plaza, the Second Act is as close to campus as you can get. The atmosphere is perfect for almost all students, with three pool tables, a well-stocked jukebox, a series of small televisions scattered throughout the bar and a centrally located big-screen TV.
With special theme nights like “South Park” night, where you can watch the newest episode while enjoying a drink, or the variety of dollar nights, this is the most fun you can have after class. They also have a friendly staff that isn’t afraid to ask for ID, so don’t forget it.

Sports fans, PSU students and the after-work crowd gather at the Tortoise to watch a game on one of the 20 TVs (two of which are satellite), shoot a few games of pool, and listen to the likes of the Rolling Stones and Otis Redding on the jukebox. With a full bar, almost 20 beers on tap and a huge menu of very cheap food in oversized portions, it’s hard not to be happy here. In addition to the beef stroganoff and curry chicken over rice, the burgers and onion rings are especially soothing. It’s almost silly not to come here on Thursday nights, because the Tortoise offers a variety of draught beers for $1 between 8:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. Be prepared to get up close and personal with fellow beer enthusiasts – it gets packed and smoky, but the gas fireplaces make it worth it.
