The ASPSU senate voted senator Maude Bowman into office as the new pro tempore Wednesday night.
The duty of the senate pro-tempore is to preside over the senate in case senate chair Dune Zhu is unable to be at the meeting. Bowman will also be responsible for setting and sending out the agenda to her fellow senators.
Bowman was the only senator nominated for the position.
Also during the meeting, senator Michael-Sean Kelly brought a motion before the senate to improve the ASPSU Web site.
Currently, the ASPSU senate Web site has only the names of the senators on it. Kelly wishes to list senators’ e-mail addresses, as well as implement a message board. The message board would be a tool for students to post their questions or comments, and senators would be able to look them over and answer them or bring them before the senate.
Kelly said the level of communication between the students and senate is low.
“A lot of students have criticized the senate for not being available for students to speak with,” he said.
Senator Dimitris Desyllas was the primary opposition to the proposed message board.
“I’d rather the senate went out and met with the students,” he said.
The senate also made Evaluation and Constitution Review Committee appointments. Senators Kelly and Nathan Pawlicki were both nominated for these positions by their fellow senators.
This committee is in charge of interpreting the ASPSU constitution. It is the judicial branch of power in the ASPSU.
