Trio of golfers offers hope for title push in spring

The women of Portland State’s golf team play their final rounds of the fall schedule this week at the University of Washington’s Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational, which finishes Wednesday at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Wash.

Just dance

From funky hip-hop to sultry tango, Portland is a city for dancers

“We should consider every day lost on which we have not danced at least once,” Friedrich Nietzsche once said. Fortunately, Portland is a dancer’s paradise, offering so many options that dancing only once a day seems ludicrous. But whether you’re a seasoned dancer or an established wallflower, Portland State’s dance clubs will help you get your groove on at least once a week.

Vikings volleyball unstoppable

PSU continues undefeated streak

The Portland State women’s volleyball team kept their winning streak going and advanced their record to 8-0 in conference over the weekend. The Vikings swept the Northern Colorado Bears on Thursday and conference newcomer North Dakota on Saturday, with good teamwork between the setters and hitters and strong serving and blocking.

Two of Portland’s best cross country runners

Neil Seibert and Amber Rozcicha

Going into this cross country season, head coach Jonathan Marcus knew his team was going to be young. An inexperienced, young team can have a lot of issues as the season wears on. Leadership, however, hasn’t been one of them.

Pacquiáo to fight Márquez after Mayweather deal falls through

The promotional campaign for the fourth installment in the rivalry between Manny Pacquiáo and Juan Manuel Márquez began in earnest last month, and if you haven’t heard about it, you aren’t alone.

A new threat under center

The potential of Portland State’s freshman quarterback

It was never going to be easy replacing Connor Kavanaugh, Portland State’s quarterback. The Vikings coaching staff mulled the decision all summer. Just days before the season opener against Carroll College, head coach Nigel Burton and offensive coordinator Bruce Barnum finally settled on freshman Kieran McDonagh as the starter.

Vikings soar to sixth win

Portland State beats Southern Utah

The Portland State women’s volleyball team took on first-year Big Sky opponent Southern Utah to add another win to the Vikings’ undefeated conference standings. The Vikings, now 10-7 and 6-0, came out slow against the Thunderbirds in set one, but went on to a four set match victory. While it took some time to learn how the new opponent played, Viking serving and blocking got the Thunderbirds off-balance and ultimately led to a win at home.

Vikings sweep weekend

Portland State women’s soccer defeats Montana and Eastern Washington

The Vikings are now on a three-game winning streak after beating conference opponents the University of Montana and Eastern Washington University last weekend. Portland State’s women’s soccer team went the whole weekend without allowing a goal, outscoring their opponents 6-0.

The year of the rookie

It’s postseason time for baseball, and if you’re a fan who’s lucky enough to have a team in the playoffs, then you’ve probably blown all your vacation time on the upcoming weeks. If you happen to live in Washington, D.C., you’ve most likely quit your job and applied to peddle kettle corn at Nationals Park just so you can watch the Nationals play for the first time ever in postseason action.
