Portland State’s Association of African Students is hosting the 29th annual African cultural night Saturday, May 30 at 5 p.m. The event, titled African Fusion, looks to celebrate a variety of the continent’s traditions and promote unity among its different countries and ethnicities.

Shaun Chine, group member, expects the event to the biggest yet, and hopes its size and prominence will encourage unity.

“The theme of the whole night is African fusion, so that means we college students want to let everything be just one, just as one Africa, one nation,” Chine said.

Chine explained that this year’s event will be the most diverse yet, featuring culture and information from Uganda, Mali, Somalia, the Congo and several others.

“This is the biggest one that has happened in the whole history of the Association of African Students,” he said.
The event will include African cuisine, dance, drummers, music, country booths and a fashion show.
