The Campus Public Safety Office has received information from a female student
reporting that she was subjected to offensive touching.

The victim said the incident occurred Monday at 12:50 p.m. on the north side of the
Engineering Building located at 1930 S.W. Fourth Avenue.

The victim said a man restrained her while making sexually suggestive comments and
rubbing against her. She provided a description of the suspect as a white male in his late
twenties who was approximately six feet tall with a stocky build and a scruffy beard. The
suspect was wearing a gray stocking cap with tassels, a blue rain jacket, and a green
bandana, the victim said.

In a timely warning CPSO posted on Monday night, they requested anyone with
information about this incident to contact CPSO.

CPSO also reminded students to be “vigilant and observant of their surroundings on and
off campus” and to call 9-1-1 or CPSO at (503)725-4404 if students have any concerns
about their personal safety, as well as reminding students of resources available to them
at Student Health and Counseling Services, the Women’s Resource Center, and the Office of Human Resources for support in these kind of instances.

CPSO Sgt. Joe Schilling stressed the importance of this advice, adding that students
should be mindful and observe what’s going on around them and ask for help if they are
in a situation where they don’t feel safe.

“Any time of the day or night, on campus or in the greater community, students should be
aware of their surroundings, and need to know they can call 9-1-1 or CPSO if they are
concerned for their safety or uncomfortable in a situation,” Schilling said. “Students need
to feel comfortable asking for help in those situations. They can always reach out to
people [in the area] around them by asking them for help [as well].”

CPSO’s timely warning is available on their website, and updates and additional
information about this incident will be made available as well.
