Computer clash

At 6:45 p.m. February 18, a scene of dramatic action unfolded at a computer lab in Science 2. Two men came in, each grabbed a computer and ran for the door.

Bystanders tackled one of the men, Alexander Metcalf, 24.

The other succeeded in escaping with a $1,000 computer.

Under questioning, Metcalf identified the other suspect as Alexander Minch, 19. Metcalf went to the detention center on counts of burglary, theft and criminal mischief. He was issued a criminal trespass warning from Portland State. Officers continued to look for Minch.

Residential rumblings

A beer bottle was thrown from an apartment window in university housing at 1:40 a.m. February 24. It landed on a vehicle. There was no damage estimate.

Officers responded to a complaint of marijuana in university housing at 9:40 p.m. February 3. The incident went to internal resolution.

A necklace valued at $400 was reported stolen from a university housing apartment at about 7:45 a.m. February 26.

Diverse disturbances

A man found sleeping on the steps at the Honors building at 8:45 p.m. February 23 was given a written criminal trespass warning.

Someone attempted to pry open locked desk drawers in Lincoln Hall about 4:30 p.m. February 24.

Officers escorted a subject out of a basketball game at Peter Stott Center at 10 p.m. February 26.

A known individual was reported making harassing phone calls to the University Center Building at 9:45 a.m. March 1. The matter went to internal handling.

An individual displaying disruptive behavior in Millar Library received a criminal trespass warning. The incident occurred at 9:30 a.m. March 1.

Resolution is pending on a complaint of domestic violence off campus in which the subject was struck with an unknown object, causing injury. The incident took place at 9 p.m. March 4.

Absent items

A secured bicycle worth $840 was stolen from the Urban Center at noon on February 24.

An unattended purse containing $30 was taken from a room in Smith Memorial Student Union about 7 a.m. February 24.

A thief forced a bike lock and stole a bike worth $540 at a rack near the Peter Stott Center about 9 p.m. February 25.

About noon February 26, also at Peter Stott Center, someone stole pedals worth $150 off a bike.

Property worth $100 was removed from a car parked in Parking 3 about 11 p.m. February 25. The thief broke a window to gain entrance.

Another broken window on a car in Parking 1 yielded items worth $407 to a thief at 9:30 a.m. February 29.

A rash of unattended wallets being stolen from a conference room in the Education-Business Administration building occurred at 7:30 p.m. February 26. The individual losses were $260, $180, $175, $230 and $129. An investigation is continuing.

A wallet was stolen from a jacket in an open office area in SMSU about 3 p.m. February 26. The loss was $55.50.

A secured bicycle worth $1,550 went missing from a bike rack on campus about 8 a.m. February 27.

Headed to jail.

Kirk Strait, 25, was arrested at 9:30 a.m. February 29 on three outstanding warrants from Southwest Washington. Assorted charges include theft and driving under the influence. He was transported to the detention center.

Gary Phillips, 55, was arrested off campus on a Clackamas County warrant for theft. He also was transported to the detention center.
