Unhinged slumber

An ingenious idea for living in university housing without paying rent was stymied by officers at 11:30 p.m. July 31. Friends of a building tenant took the hinges off kitchen doors leading to an adjoining room and were using the room to sleep in without paying rent or holding a lease.

The matter was deemed unlawful entry into an apartment. The matter was referred for internal disposition.

Lifted loot

An unlocked office in Millar Library yielded a $2,500 computer to a thief about 3 p.m. July 25.

Soon after noon, July 29, an unattended purse was taken from the second floor of Smith Memorial Student Union. The loss was $85.

An $80 loss was reported after someone took an unattended purse from an open office in SMSU about 8 a.m. July 30.

A secured bicycle was taken from a bike race near Cramer Hall about 6 p.m. July 29. It was valued at $1,035.

Napping proved costly to the owner of an unattended bag in Millar Library about noon, July 29. The loss was $240.

Phone threat

A resident of university housing reported receiving a telephone threat at 6 p.m. July 28. The caller left a message saying he was with the FBI, threatening the subject with revocation of his visa. Officers requested phone records from Pacific Telecom.

Car violated

The owner of a car parked in Parking Structure 1 found the finish damaged by scratches. The incident occurred about 1 a.m. July 31.

One caught

Portland police responded at 11:30 p.m. June 5 to a report of vandalism to a parked motorcycle on campus. The suspect, Hung M. Tran, 24, has been located, cited and released on a charge of criminal mischief.

Warrant-teed

An out-of-state warrant for a previous arrest on an unknown charge landed Jason S. Channer, 25, in Multnomah County Detention Center. CPSO officers located the suspect in Parking Structure 3 about 4 a.m. Aug. 2.
