The lurker
Hiding in the bushes outside Smith Memorial Student Union at 2:30 a.m. Jan. 8 proved unwise for Michael Muller, 47. A custodian called Campus Public Safety about the lurker and officers responded. When Muller saw officers approaching, he took off running.

Officers caught up with him outside the Parkway apartments and engaged him in conversation. They found Muller not behaving in a way that merited a citation. However, a warrants check showed he was wanted for burglary and criminal mischief. As a result, he got a trip to jail.

Lost keys
A set of lost keys may have played a role in the theft of $170 out of the cash register and safe from the Food for Thought Caf퀌 kitchen in Smith Memorial Student Union.

The incident occurred about 7 p.m. Jan. 8. The area was found unlocked. Officers were told the keys to the area were lost three months ago.
