A thank you is in order to Student Activities and Leadership Programs for catching one of the many faults of OSPIRG by declaring that they are no longer a student group.

But next time, include students in the decision.

We know that there is a new “student group recognition process” meant to filter out groups like OSPIRG. And we know that students helped develop that process.

But it is bureaucratic procedures like this that keep students out of the decisions that concern them.

It may be within SALP’s purview to decide whether OSPIRG can operate as a student group-but it’s an important decision that impacts only students. No matter what bureaucracies may be in place, students must be included.
