Editors and students voice their choice

The Best of PSU issue is an exciting paper to produce. It’s not often that one of our writers gets a story assignment to go eat dinner at two great restaurants, or to sample the happy hours around campus.

Our intention with this issue is to give students a slice of the great things about Portland State University.

From food and coffee to live music and earthquake tips, the Vanguard staff has compiled some of the things all students should know about.

The feature stories you find here are Vanguard editorial picks. Our editorial board came up with as many subjects as possible, trying to capture a broad section of student life, and voted on the top picks. Many of the votes came out very close, but others won by a landslide.

In addition to our editorial picks, we also asked students to contribute their votes through a poll in the newspaper and at our Web site.

Thanks to all of you who contributed to the student picks. Throughout the paper, look for boxes with students’ choices, ranging from best coffee on campus to the best place to hit on a coed.

The Vanguard and students differ on some choices, such as coffee, but that gives us a chance to expose you to more options.

In no way does the Vanguard staff intend for this issue to be considered an end-all-be-all take on the campus, and our poll was clearly not scientific. We hope, however, that it broadens some students’ knowledge of our community and that it is an enjoyable guide to PSU.

If you disagree with any of our choices or would like to provide your own opinions, visit our Web site (www.dailyvanguard.com) and post your feedback. These stories will be available through Tuesday, Oct. 28.

P.S. The Vanguard staff would especially like to thank Victor the Viking for lending us his image. Go Viks!

Sincerely,

Erin Lloyd
