A book discussion of In an Antique Land by Amitav Gosh with Bishupal Limbu, Assistant Professor of English, Portland State University.
This multi-generic book moves back and forth between Amitav Ghosh’s experience living in small villages and towns in the Nile Delta and his reconstruction of a Jewish trader and his slave’s lives in the eleventh century. Mixing conversation and research, imagination and scholarship, it is also a charged, eccentric history of the special relationship between two countries, Egypt and India, through nearly ten centuries of parochialism and sympathy, bigotry and affection.
Free copies of the book are available to the first 10 people to RSVP: middleeaststudiescenter@pdx.edu
Free & open to the public. For more information, visit: http://www.pdx.edu/middle-east-studies/events/about-antique-land-book-discussion-bishupal-limbu?delta=0
