On June 25th we’re having a book launch at the Edgefield McMenamins for the free iBook “Revealing Our Past: A History of Nineteenth Century Vancouver Barracks through 25 Objects,” which was written primarily by Portland State graduate students under the guidance of Greg Shine, Chief Ranger & Historian at Fort Vancouver National Historic Site and Adjunct Professor here at PSU. This book, which springs out of the 2013 Public History School at Fort Vancouver (a class last Winter term), is the first iBook to be published under the auspices of the National Park Service.

In an hour-long talk, Professor Shine and the students will discuss some of their favorite artifacts and stories, and show how the objects, texts, and artifacts held at Fort Vancouver National Park can connect people to place and history. Come on down, enjoy a libation, and imbibe some history. All ages welcome.
