This talk will introduce the audience to Hu Jie’s work and show clips from three of his films: Searching for Lin Zhao’s Soul, My Mother Wang Peiying, and Spark.
Hu Jie (胡 杰) is an internationally acclaimed documentary filmmaker. In 2012, his films Though I am Gone and Searching for Lin Zhao’s Soul were named among the top six must-see Chinese documentaries by Chris Barry (Professor of Film and Television Studies at Goldsmith, University of London) and La Frances Hui (Film Curator at Asia Society New York).Though I am Gone won the audience award at the 2007 Shanghai Arts Festival, first place in the feature-length category at the inaugural 2008 Chinese Documentary Film Festival, and the jury prize at the Fourth REEL CHINA Documentary Biennial of Contemporary China in 2008.Searching for Lin Zhao’s Soul was the gold medal winner in the feature-length category of the inaugural iSunTV Chinese Documentary Film Awards in 2011.
