Continuing a massive roster overhaul that began two seasons ago when head coach Jerry Glanville arrived, the football team signed 25 new athletes to bolster its roster this week.
Of the 25 players added, 18 of the signees are high school seniors expected to join the Vikings this summer, four were signed after competing at the junior college level, two are transfers from other four-year institutions and another originally signed in 2008 but re-signed this year.
Glanville has placed emphasis on recruiting in the state of Texas, and continued that tradition by signing six high-schoolers from the Lone Star State. Five of the high school recruits will make their way to the South Park Blocks after playing high school football in California.
The most heralded recruit is Carl Sommer, who played several games for Oregon State before leaving the Beavers around the mid-season point. Sommer, who went to high school in Wilsonville, is expected to compete for a starting defensive end position next fall.
