Golf looks to end of fall season
The women’s golf team concluded its fall season this week with its best performance of the year at the Matador Fall Classic. The Viks placed fourth with top 10 finishes from junior Bobbie Dunn and senior Lisa Zimmer.
Portland State shot a 313-315 (628) over the 6,021-yard, par 73 River Ridge Golf Course. Long Beach State took the top finish with a 597. Melanie Furuta of Long Beach State won the individual title shooting a 69-72 (141).
Dunn shot a 75-76 (151) placing fifth, which was the best two-round performance of her PSU career. Zimmer who tied for ninth, also the best performance of her career, shot a 79-76 (155).
The young and talented freshman played well; Jeana Lee shot a 160 and Sarah Tiller shot a 162.The only other Big Sky Conference competitor was Sacramento State. PSU beat Sacramento by 51 strokes in the nine-team event.
PSU will compete again in February at the Lady Aztec Invitational in San Diego. The men’s team will also be competing at the Aztec Invite, Nov. 5-6 in their final tournament of the fall season.
The Vikings placed 11th in last tournament, the Countrywide Home Loans Intercollegiate Tournament.PSU shot a 302-297-306 (905) over the 54-hole tournament at Wood Ranch Golf Club. UC-Irvine won the event with a 871. Wood Ranch is a par 72, 6,632-yard track.
Senior Brodie Jordan led the Viks with 75-73-75 (223), tying him for 23rd. Austin Smith tied for 39th with a 226.
