Two of the members of the women’s golf team that captured the Big Sky Championship and earned a trip to the NCAA Tournament were named to the National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team for the 2007-08 academic year.

Senior Kayla Morinaga, an economics major and two-time all Big Sky Conference performer, and sophomore Aubrey Vaughn, a business administration major, were both Academic All-Conference selections as well.

To qualify for the award, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 and compete in at least half of the team’s varsity matches during the season.

The naming of Brown and Morinaga to the scholar team marks the fifth consecutive year in which two Vikings have been given the honor. Morinaga has earned the award in each of her three seasons as a member of the golf team.

Led by Morinaga, Brown and sophomore Hannah Bews, the team surprised many by winning the conference tournament despite undergoing a mid-season coaching change when Kathleen Takaishi replaced the successful Felicia Johnston.

Behind a solid team performance the Vikings captured their fourth Big Sky Conference Championship this decade.
