The Oregon State Senate confirmed the nominations of Antone "Tony" Van Vliet and Adriana Mendoza to the State Board of Higher Education Wednesday.
Van Vliet, a former state representative and Oregon State University faculty member, and Mendoza, an Eastern Oregon University student leader, were nominated by Gov. Ted Kulongoski in August.
The governor said that both nominees would help the board to ensure excellence and accessibility of higher education in Oregon, one of his top priorities for the state.
Now that the Senate has confirmed the nominations both Van Vliet and Mendoza immediately begin terms on the board that runs through June of 2005.
The State Board of Higher Education is composed of 11 members and serves as the governing body of the Oregon University System, of which Portland State is a member school.
