MIAMI – Jay-Z led the MTV Video Music Awards nominations on Tuesday, getting six nods for his video “99 Problems.”
Beyonce, No Doubt, and OutKast had five nominations each. Beyonce was up for “Naughty Girl” and “Me, Myself and I.” No Doubt was picked for “It’s My Life” and OutKast for “Hey Ya.”
The awards spectacle is much anticipated in Miami, where the show will be held Aug. 29 at American Airlines Arena. City officials and event planners are organizing private parties for the preening VIPs expected to flock to sunny South Florida, filling hotels, restaurants and nightclubs.
It’s the awards’ 21st year, but the first time it will be held outside Los Angeles or New York.
The VMAs celebrate the year’s best music videos, but the honors are usually upstaged by scene-stealing celebrity presenters and performers.
