Men’s basketball standout Anthony Lackey was one of 11 players named All-Big Sky Conference yesterday by a vote of the league’s coaches. Seamus Boxley was also recognized, sharing Outstanding Freshman honors with Montana State’s Jason Erickson.
Lackey, a junior forward, was the Vikings’ top player this season, leading the team in scoring (14.5 ppg), rebounding (5.9 rpg) and three-point shooting percentage (.406). Other impressive numbers include shooting .458 from the field and .758 at the line, while sinking 52 three-point field goals this year. He was the team’s most consistent player, leading the team in scoring in 14 games – including five 20-point games – and rebounding in 11 games. He also received Big Sky Conference Player of the Week honors on Feb. 19 after leading the team to a victory over then first-place Eastern Washington.
Boxley, a freshman from Mountlake Terrace High School in Washington, had an exceptional first season, averaging 7.4 points and 4.3 rebounds per game while blocking 19 shots over the course of the season. Boxley hit .549 from the field – the fifth-best mark in PSU history. In conference games, Boxley hit .570 from the field.
