Leaky faucet floods Food For Thought

A neglected running faucet on the first floor of the Smith Memorial Student Union caused gallons of water to leak through the floor into Food For Thought Cafe below Wednesday night.

The incident was apparently caused when a janitor filling a mop bucket with water was called away and forgot to turn off the faucet.

The leak destroyed several ceiling tiles in Food For Thought and may have also damaged a stereo system, but no major damage was caused, according to Richard Koontz of Facilities and Planning.

Facilities workers were on the scene around 8 p.m. to clean up the huge puddle left by the leak, but a gaping hole still remains in the cafe’s ceiling.
