I take umbrage with Richard Oxley’s article about the supposed “non-gay” agenda [“The non-gay agenda,” Oct. 5]. Is it so far-fetched that those of us who don’t want to be spoon-fed and brainwashed with supposed “diversity” while we attempt to preserve a more moral way of life?

Somebody is upset (and doesn’t know how to use an exclamation point sparingly)

I take umbrage with Richard Oxley’s article about the supposed “non-gay” agenda [“The non-gay agenda,” Oct. 5]. Is it so far-fetched that those of us who don’t want to be spoon-fed and brainwashed with supposed “diversity” while we attempt to preserve a more moral way of life? There is a higher law than the Constitution that should be followed in this country, but isn’t. And that law demands that homosexuals should not be married! If they want to choose to get married, that’s fine! But first they should choose not to be homosexuals! And as for the benefits that come with being married, those are only available through divine Biblical right. As it says in Peter I, Verse 9: “Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing.” The obvious meaning of this verse is that so-called homosexual “partners” should not be allowed the same rights as a heterosexual married couple! I will be loath if these rights are to be usurped by the homosexual agenda, which, yes indeed, undoubtedly exists! If Mr. Oxley is not willing to submit to the higher moral authority on the editorial pages of The Vanguard, then perhaps the paper should offer a differing viewpoint to balance against Mr. Oxley’s obvious biased commentaries! Praying for your soul,

Craig Ireneus

Don’t punish individuality

Rich makes some really important comments that I think we can all relate to [“The non-gay agenda,” Oct. 5]. The legislation of personal freedom by our government is for the most part forbidden, but increasingly that right is taken from us by the moral majority. Individuality is something that should be prized not punished.

Applause for Haaken

Professor Jan Haaken finally will receive well-deserved acknowledgement for a labor of love [“Queen of Heart,” Oct. 5]. She has also been actively fundraising for the Walk of the Heroines at PSU, her other “child” that she has been nurturing since 1998. Anyone who has worked with Jan knows that she has an infectious way of involving you in her projects of passion. Her students speak highly of her classes. We are fortunate to have such a heroine in our midst.
