In an e-mail sent out to faculty from library administration, the Portland State library discussed a tentative agreement between them and the University to “weed” out about 5 percent of the library’s literature collection.
A number of books may be “de-selected,” but the e-mail says that if the library cannot reach that percentage without damaging the integrity of the collection, they will back down from the agreement. The first books the library will try and weed out, according to the e-mail, are ones with multiple copies, old poetry anthologies and Norton Anthologies.
“I truly hope that the University will address the library’s space problem and seek some resolutions,” the e-mail read.
