There are a lot of sweet films playing at local theaters this week and unless you’re moping around lamenting the end of spring break, you probably don’t have the time to pick out the best ones. But don’t worry about it—we’ve searched through them for you.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers
The 1978 version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers is an anomaly. It’s a remake of a cult classic (1956 film of the same name) that is not only decent, but absolutely fantastic. The film—with the original storyline based off the novel The Body Snatchers by Jack Finney—tells the creepy tale of aliens descending on San Francisco and essentially “snatching” bodies and replacing them with emotionless, but otherwise identical versions in order to take over the human race. This is the last installment of Laurelhurst Theater’s Sci-fi March, as part of their Tenth Annual Movie Series.

Red Riding: 1974
Part of the award-winning Red Riding trilogy is Red Riding: 1974, the first segment of the tale of the Yorkshire Ripper, a serial killer that terrorized England in the 1970s and 1980s. In this first installment, journalist Eddie Dunford, played by Andrew Garlfield, begins to suspect that a string of child abductions and murders he has been investigating are in some way connected. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for parts two and three of the series.

Blood Into Wine
If you like wine, do not miss Blood Into Wine, playing at Cinema 21 this week. The much-awaited documentary follows Tool/Puscifer front man Maynard James Keenan and his business partner Eric Glomski as they attempt to bring notoriety to the wine industry in Northern Arizona. The film also gives audiences a deeper look at the often-reclusive Keenan.

Scream of the Bikini
If you hadn’t heard, Hollywood Theatre is hosting the Faux Film Festival this weekend and that is not something you want to miss. Along with a selection of spoof commercials, trailers and TV spots, the opening night of the fest will include a showing of Scream of the Bikini. The film is a spoof of ridiculous 1960s spy epics, following Bridget and Sophie—supermodels by day and top-secret spies by night. Sound ridiculous? Yeah, that’s why you’ll want to be there.

Sing-a-Long Mary Poppins
What’s better than seeing the classic Mary Poppins on the big screen? That’s an easy one: Attending the sing-a-long version of Mary Poppins on the big screen. According to Cinema 21, the musical is “back by popular demand,” and that’s not something you ought to take for granted. So after the first week of spring term, live a little and let the child inside come out as you sing along with classics like “Chim Chim Cheree” and “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.”
