Pete Krebs and Gossamer Wings, Junior Private Detective
Berbati’s Pan, 231 S.W. Ankeny St.
Free, 21+
Larry Crane, owner and operator of Jackpot Recording Studio, curated this motley group of local musicians. Pete Krebs alone is worth the admission. Oh wait, it’s free!

Pigface, Sheep on Drugs, Nocturne, Voodou
Dante’s, 1 S.W. Third Ave.
$13, 21+
An industrial rock collective? Maybe they grow organic zucchini and publish a monthly zine about the dangers of hearing loss.

Thursday, May 5

A Life Once Lost
Loveland, 320 S.E. Second Ave.
$10, All ages
Double bass, death metal growls and eardrum-popping guitar solos. Great night out for a first date.

Victor Wooten
Aladdin Theater, 3017 S.E. Milwaukie Ave.
$25, All ages
Out from under the oppressive thumb of Bela Fleck and his Flecktones, Victor Wooten is on the run with his bluegrass tendencies and mad electric bass skills. Catch him at the Aladdin before Bela catches him for good.

MILE, the Graves, Corrina Repp, Blanket Music, Kind of Like Spitting, Reclinerland
Holocene, 1001 S.E. Morrison St.
$5, 21+
Hush Records celebrates the release of their 50th album by forcing their indentured artists to perform dangerous feats of indie pop prowess and musical contortionism.

Gang of Four
Crystal Ballroom, 1332 W. Burnside St.
$20/$23, All ages
The seminal post-punk band has reunited and is coming to P-town. Chances are, even if you’ve never heard them they’ve influenced a good chunk of your music collection.

Wolf Eyes, Smegma, Panther
Berbati’s Pan, 231 S.W. Ankeny St.
$7, 21+
Most noise guys are jerks. Oh boy! Some white dude with a mic and three pedals can create a wall of white noise! Big deal. Now Wolf Eyes, these guys make noise. Real noise, that hops, scurries and dances its ass off. Like Panther. So awesome.

Friday, May 6

Agnostic Front, Martyr AD, Love Is Red, All Shall Perish
Loveland, 320 S.E. Second Ave.
$12, All ages
Born in the womb of CBGB’s from the ashes of the punk movement, Agnostic Front was one of the first bands to explore the boundary between punk and metal, which means Linkin Park is at least partially their fault.

Crosstide, Climber
Doug Fir Lounge, 830 E. Burnside St.
$10, 21+
A night of upwardly mobile Portland bands, with the radio-friendly rock of the perpetually melancholy Crosstide and the electro pop beauty of Climber.

Nomeansno
Berbati’s Pan, 231 S.W. Ankeny St.
$12, All ages
Bizarre and quirky punk rock from British Columbia that flirts with jazz, metal and funk, but always in a way that will fuck with your head.

Bright Eyes, The Faint
Crystal Ballroom, 1332 W. Burnside St.
$23.50/$25, All ages
Plenty of pretty underage girls to make out with, as long as Conor Oberst doesn’t get them first.

Saturday, May 7

Mudhoney, Napalm Beach
Sabala’s Mt. Tabor, 4811 S.E. Hawthorne Blvd.
$10, 21+
Having outlasted all but the hardiest of their peers, the quintessential grunge band is still alive and kicking. Dust off you flannel work shirt, dig up your authentically worn jeans and get ready to wax nostalgic for a time when stamping “Seattle” on an album would triple its sales in Japan.

MandoDiao, DankoJones, Comas
Doug Fir Lounge, 830 E. Burnside St.
$10, 21+
Swedish darlings MandoDiao seamlessly blend a grab bag of influences, from Motown to punk to Oasis, into a brand of sprawling nostalgia all their own. And they’re Swedish.

Sloan, The Minus 5
Dante’s, 1 S.W. Third Ave.
$8, 21+

Unapologetic pop from Canada. Do they ever apologize about anything?

Sunday, May 8

Keane
Roseland, 8 N.W. Sixth Ave.
$22, All ages
Sticky, saccharine pop rock that’s perfectly at home on VH1. They got their start as a U2 and Oasis cover band for god’s sake!

Amy Ray
Crystal Ballroom, 1332 W. Burnside St.
$12/$15, All ages
The darker half of the Indigo Girls is touring in support of her sophomore solo outing, Prom, which is somewhere between the pink houses of John Mellencamp and the throbbing blue-state rage of Sleater-Kinney.

Monade, The Zincs
Doug Fir Lounge, 830 E. Burnside St.
$12, 21+
A side band of Stereolab’s Laetitia Sadier, Monade has recently grown from a solo project to a full-fledged band. Slightly more rocking than its older sibling, Monade has the same whimsical feel and beautiful melodies.

Monday, May 9

The Perceptionists
Doug Fir Lounge, 830 E. Burnside St.
$12, 21+
There might be other shows tonight but it doesn’t matter. Go see Mr. Lif! One of the best MCs in the world is gracing us again and if you’re at some indie show instead it’ll be hard for me to hit on you later. But not too hard.
