The Willamette Week reported Monday that Portland Mayor Sam Adams has admitted to a sexual relationship in 2005 with 18-year-old former legislative intern, Beau Breedlove.
Adams had previously denied the accusations, and he had told Breedlove to do the same. Although the two met when Breedlove was just 17, Adams claims that the relationship had not turned intimate until after Breedlove turned 18.
Suspicions began in 2005 when Adams took Breedlove out to lunch at Romano’s Macaroni Grill in downtown Portland, and then proceeded to invite him out to First Thursday. At the luncheon, Breedlove revealed to Adams that he, too, was gay.
Breedlove later showed up at the monthly City Hall art-and-wine event, and he and Adams went to dinner afterwards at the Lotus Café. Breedlove’s boyfriend apparently picked him up and took him back to Salem afterwards.
In addition to the two meals shared, the pair exchanged numerous text messages and phone calls. Adams also attended Breedlove’s 18th birthday party, he did, however, bring a date. The relationship apparently began after that evening.
