Portland State right-hander Morgan Seibert was named the Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week yesterday.
Although Seibert captured Pitcher of the Week honors three times in 2001, the junior earned her first Pitcher of the Week award this season by throwing back-to-back conference shutouts against Louisiana Tech and Tulsa. She ended the week with a 3-0 record and a 0.00 ERA, allowing only one unearned run in 21 innings. She threw a two-hitter against Tulsa and a three-hitter against Louisiana Tech.
On the season, Seibert is 11-10 with a 1.76 ERA and three shutouts. She has struck out 176 batters in 143.1 innings pitched and opponents are batting just .179 against her. With the wins, Seibert moved into fifth place on Portland State’s all-time shutout list with 16.
Seibert heads into this week with 554 career strikeouts, only five shy of the 19-year PSU record set by Deb Fitzhugh.
