Phish is off the menu
After almost 21 years of frameless jazzy guitar meanderings, rockicons Phish are calling it a day. A statement issued by the groupreveals that their current tour will be their last.
The group came to a consensus that Phish had run its naturalcourse, and the time had come for them to part. “Last Friday night,I got together with Mike, Page and Fish to talk openly about thestrong feelings I’ve been having that Phish has run its course andthat we should end it now while it’s still on a high note,” TreyAnastasio said in the statement on the group’s website.
“Once we started talking, it quickly became apparent that theother guys’ feelings, while not all the same as mine, were similarin many ways – most importantly, that we all love and respect Phishand the Phish audience far too much to stand by and allow it todrag on beyond the point of vibrancy and health. We don’t want tobecome caricatures of ourselves, or worse yet, a nostalgiaact.”
Neither Aerosmith nor the Rolling Stones have followed suit.
Shocking news: Peer pressure in high school
Kelly Osbourne has spilled her guts about her drug fiasco and rehabin a television interview with her brother Jack, according to BBCNews. Using language straight out of an after-school special, thewhiny Osbourne told tales of depression, of not fitting in and ofpeer pressure. One would imagine that having Ozzy around all thetime would make someone want to steer clear of Vicodin and Oxy, butapparently the obnoxious cliquiness of American high schools had astronger effect.
“So I took it, and then suddenly I was at the center ofattention … and for the first time I felt like I fit in and wascomfortable,” she said of her first pill-form flirtations with thewhite lady.
The Darkness at the end of the tunnel
Darkness guitarist and vocalist Justin Hawkins’ throat surgery isover and he is well on the road to recovery. In an interview withEngland’s The Sun, Hawkins went into detail concerning theintensity of his affliction.
“I had a hiatus hernia and acid reflux. Basically, there’s asphincter inside your throat, as well as up your bottom. It’ssupposed to control how much acid is let up into your throat. Butmine was broken so my stomach was spitting acid into the throat. Itwas literally burning my voice up,” he said.
Apparently his condition was one of the worst in medicalhistory, but it isn’t enough to prevent the Darkness from appearingat a variety of festivals this summer and beginning a follow-up totheir 2003 album Permission to Land. The butt-rock goodness of TheDarkness is here to stay.
Stabbed in the back with a Nine Inch Nail
Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails has filed a multimillion-dollarsuit against his former management company, J. Artist Management, according to MTV News. Reznor alleges that John Malm, ex-managerand longtime friend, diverted large sums of money from the musicianand refused to hand over accounting documents concerning NIN andNothing, the label that Reznor and Malm co-founded.
Malm responded by slapping Trent with a countersuit, claimingthat Reznor still owes fees to the tune of $2 million and sayingthat he had been stabbed in the back by his old friend “with a nineinch nail.”
Malm should automatically lose the case and be forced to pay thefull amount for saying something that corny.
