Wendy Endress, Portland State University’s newest administrator, serves the campus in two roles – interim director of student affairs and as campus judicial officer.
Endress, 34, was born in Trenton, N.J. and has worked in higher education student services since 1989. She completed her undergraduate work at Union College in New York, earned a master’s degree at Bowling Geen State University in Ohio and has a doctorate from the University if Maryland-College Park. Prior to coming to PSU, Endress worked at educational institutions including Columbia University, Johns Hopkins University, and the University of Maryland – College Park.
Endress said of why she enjoys working with students: “The responsibility offers me an opportunity to strive to positively impact student success and their college experience.”
As Interim Director of Student Affairs, Endress is responsible for making sure the department reaches its goals by managing its day to day operations, representing the department when needed, and leading its full time staff of one assistant director and five advisors.
The Office of Student Development offers PSU students co-curricular experiences and activities designed to promote professional growth, leadership training and learning outside of class. It serves the PSU community in the following capacities: advising over 150 student organizations and programs; teaching workshops, seminars and classes on a variety of topics; and advising student government.
As Interim Campus Judicial Officer, Endress administers the student conduct code and serves as a general liaison between students and other university departments.
The Office of Student Affairs, which handles judicial affairs, offers a range of services and activities created to support the academic success of PSU students. It oversees all student service, program and life departments, including student development.
“Students can become involved with student development in many ways – educational credit internships, employment opportunities, ASPSU, there are tons of opportunities,” Endress said.
Endress has an open door policy and encourages students to schedule an appointment to meet with her. She can be reached at 503-725-4422 or via e-mail at endress@pdx.edu.
Students who are interested in joining an existing student organization or starting one of their own can contact student development directly by visiting their office in Room 443 of Smith Memorial Center or calling at 503-725-4452.
