Diversify
Yoland Moses, American Association of Higher Education president, will host a session May 16 to examine the link between cultural diversity and student learning. Strategies for linking curriculum, pedagogy and assessment to larger institutional goals will be discussed. The event will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. in Room 327 of the Smith Center. The event is sponsored by the Diversity Action Council.

Avoid sexual harassment
Learn how to recognize and avoid sexual harassment. Burt Christopherson and Elaine Cohn from the Affirmative Action Office will lead free Sexual Harassment training seminars on May 14 for supervisors and May 16 for faculty and staff. “The Secret Life of Girls”
Dr. Sharon Lamb, a professor of psychology and clinical psychologist from Vermont, will speak at Portland State on “The Secret Life of Girls: Sex, Aggression and Guilt.” Lamb discusses the prototype of the “good girl” as it emerged in her research on the private lives of girls. She also shows how family and cultural inscriptions vary with race, class and historical period amongst many girls and women who struggle with guilt and uncertainty about the meaning of sexuality. The lecture takes place Thursday, May 16 at 7 p.m. in Smith 290. For information call 503-725-3967. This event is free for everyone.
